Bathroom Shower Wall Panels by Mermaid

There are a variety of different shower wall panels profiles available, each with a specific function.

Corner Profiles

corner profiles

As the name suggests, these profiles are used to join two shower wall panels together where they meet in a corner. You may wish to use Mermaid bathroom shower wall panels to conceal unsightly showers plumbing and the external corner profile's provide a neat finish to ‘box’ structure's such as this. Internal corner profiles can either be used for the corners of rooms, or within bathroom shower enclosures.

Edging Profiles

edging profiles

Edging profiles give a neat co-ordinated finish to Mermaid bathroom shower wall panels by concealing the outer edge. The type of profile required depends upon the type of panel used and also its application. For example snap-in edging should only be used where the panel has a groove with a fixing edge.

Joining Profiles

Mermaid bathroom shower wall panels are 2400 mm high, which makes them the ideal height for most rooms. However if your bathroom has a particularly high ceiling, you would use joining profiles to stack one panel, or part panel on top of the other to achieve the desired height.

The huge choice of Mermaid bathroom shower wall panels profiles allows for a variety of mix and match options. The Watercolours profiles have been specifically developed for a near perfect match to each panel colour, whilst profiles in complementary shades are perfect for the Aurora collection. Alternatively, why not choose gold or chrome-effect profiles to match bathroom fittings. The possibilities are endless.

Cutting

If using a handsaw, cut panel with decorative face upwards. If using an electric saw, cut panel with saw directiondecorative face downwards, on a stable base.

Wall surface

Ensure the wall surface is flat and even. If not, affix the battens prior to installing panels.

SEALING

Types of sealant

For shower wall panels joints such as tongue-and-groove and standard internal and external corners, we recommend the use of a polyurethane sealant (such as Sikaflex 521UV) as it retains its elasticity for longer and has better adhesion than standard sealant. However, polyurethane sealant is available in a limited choice of colours, so where the sealant is visible and easily replaceable (eg at the bottom edge of the panel, around accessories or where a concealed profile is finished off), a silicone sealant containing fungicide may be used. This is produced in a wide choice of colours for matching to either the panels themselves or to bathroom suites and accessories.

bottom edgeBottom edges

Mermaid bathroom shower wall panels should fit 3mm above bath, showers or horizontal surfaces, with chamfered edge facing downwards if possible. Seal gap with sealant. If vinyl flooring is used, continue 100mm behind panel. If skirting boards are used, mount over panels and secure.

Joints

Seal all tongued-and-grooved joints with sealant. Always use sealant inside each profile prior to inserting panel.

attachmentsAttachments and apertures

Accessories and shower attachments can be fitted directly on to the panel. Where pipes etc. come through the panel, a clearance of 2-3mm should be left. This should then be sealed, even when a collar is to be fitted.

Fixing

Use self-tapping galvanized cross-head screws with flat countersunk head.

Brick/Concrete/Tiles

Use countersunk screws and plugs at 275mm intervals.

Plasterboard/Studwork
Fix to batten behind or use appropriate wall plug and fix to the board itself. Alternatively, nail and glue, using an appropriate wall panel adhesive.
